Jacques Demierre - piano A highly energetic improvisational trio featuring three composers playing the instruments. You can expect a frighteningly new approach to the traditional jazz format of the piano trio.
The piano trio is one of the classic line-ups in jazz- unless it is Jacques Demierre, Barry Guy and Lucas Niggli. These three musicians feel as much at home in a freely improvised setting as they do in contemporary composed music- in both situations they display their humorous approach. They practice an unorthodox handling of their instruments, produce unheard-of sounds, leave conventions behind- and still remain connected to the European musical tradition. There is no longer a defined rhythm-section; instead, ideas are sought-after, as are quick reactions and innovation. Jacques Demierre and Lucas Niggli have played together for a number of years, and together with Barry Guy they form a highly flexible triangle. (Fredi Bosshard). |
